Government eyes off fire sale of historic defence properties around Australia

 The Albanese government has identified 67 defence sites for potential sale, aiming to unlock up to $1.8 billion as the Australian Defence Force moves to address critical capability gaps and redirect investment towards northern bases and infrastructure supporting the AUKUS program.

High-profile properties including Victoria Barracks in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, Spectacle Island in NSW and HMAS Penguin in NSW, are among those earmarked for divestment, following a sweeping independent audit of the Defence estate.
