McGowan government commits to inquiry into forced adoptions in Western Australia

 The West Australian government has thrown its support behind a campaign for a parliamentary inquiry into the practice of forced adoption.

The announcement by WA Child Protection Minister Sabine Winton follows a long-running campaign by people who were adopted out as children, along with mothers who were forced to relinquish their babies.

It is estimated more than 150,000 babies were removed from their mainly unwed mothers across Australia from the 1950s to the early 1980s under the forced adoption practice.
