Compostable coffee cups causing FOGO confusion as WA transitions to plastic-free

 As Western Australia moves closer to a ban on plastic-lined disposable coffee cups, many retailers are already making the switch to compostable varieties.  But the change has caused confusion for consumers about how to correctly dispose of their cups, which environmentalists say could be eased if there was more consistent labelling on compostable packaging. McGowan government commits to inquiry into forced adoptions in Western Australia

 The West Australian government has thrown its support behind a campaign for a parliamentary inquiry into the practice of forced adoption. The announcement by WA Child Protection Minister Sabine Winton follows a long-running campaign by people who were adopted out as children, along with mothers who were forced to relinquish their babies. It is estimated more than 150,000 babies were removed from their mainly unwed mothers across Australia from the 1950s to the early 1980s under the forced adoption practice. Alinta calls for new gas, green energy capacity as coal exodus threatens supply crunch in WA

 One of Australia's biggest energy companies has revealed it wants to build a new gas-fired power plant in Western Australia amid plans to shut most of the state's coal generation by the end of the decade. Alinta Energy, which has more than a million customers across the country, said extra gas-fired capacity was desperately needed in WA's biggest electricity grid and it wanted the "opportunity" to provide the service. The comments from the privately owned firm come as speculation grows that WA's state-owned power provider, Synergy, is believed to be working on plans to build its own gas-fired generator.
